Bennies:
p. I prefer using the “Fate Chips” from Deadlands Reloaded Player’s Guide. All Hinderences and Edges referring to “Bennies” apply to “Fate Chips”.

First Session/Introduction:
One thing I like to do with the first session for a new group of players or existing group starting a new game system is run a little “obstacle course” competition. I have found this gives everyone a chance to get a feel for the basic rules etc. Here are the rules as I’ve worked them up so far under the Savage Worlds Deluxe mechanic.

The Obstacle course.

  1. Log Walk
    • Movement
      • 1 move to get up ramp
      • 1 move to get down ramp +2 inches
      • 6" long
      • 2" single move – no penalty
      • 4" double move is -2
      • 6" triple move -5

    • Failure
      • Immediately ends turn
      • Fail by 1 – Fall off no progress (AGIL roll to stay on no movement)
      • Fail by more than 1 – Fall off half way down distance attempted
      • Fail & Trait die is a 1 – Fall off at end of distance attempted
      • Critical is fall off at very end of distance attempted, takes one action to get up
      • Must run back to re-start

  2. Tires
    • Movement
      • Same as above, inches = number of tires

    • Failure
      • Same as above, critical is fall over, foot stuck in tire 1 action to unstuck

  3. Shooting
    • Normal shooting/ROF rules
    • Success hits outer ring. five rings (including bullseye)
    • Each raise one ring in.
    • Five seconds added for each miss, for each unused round
    • Five seconds deducted for each ring in (max 25 seconds off per round)

  4. Overhead Ladder
    • Movement
      • Same as above, inches = number of tires

    • Failure
      • Same as above, critical is fall over, Takes 1 action to get up next round
